About

Hello,

I’m Dave, a curate in Mansfield, a husband, a new daddy and generally all round nice bloke.

It’s worth pointing out that the views expressed here are my own and not those of St Johns or St Marys, Mansfield.  Of course, I still hold my views, even when I am at work…

  1. This isn’t really a comment as much as a question. I’m an American and I have no depth of understanding about the Anglican Church, the High Church, and Anglo-Catholicism, and what I read is very heavy and assumes that one is from the UK and has some baseline knowledge. Sometimes, the writings are slanted or persuasive, making it more difficult.

Why would one Anglican fellow be “Rev Smith” and another be “Fr Smith,” for example? Is there a huge difference among being Anglican, Anglo-Catholic, and Roman Catholic, especially between the latter two? I am acquainted with some people in England, and they assure me that the lines are very blurry and no one very much cares these days, if anyone much did, and these are very traditionally well-educated men. Still, I simply find that hard to believe.

Is that true? Are the lines so blurry, say, that a Roman Catholic could become a vicar, or an Anglican a priest in the UK? They are very distinct and separate here in the States, and perhpas that’s why I assume it’s like that everywhere–like everyone would love McDonald’s or a Disney theme park. We’re rather foolish in that way…

If you would be so kind as to reply, I would very much appreciate it, and thank you.

I enjoy your thoughtful posts, and hope you will continue sharing!

    Kind regards,

    Sam Williams

  2. Looking forward to hearing about your time in Natal, and how you’re coping with the heat, food and parish work out there. Enjoy all the experiences, whether fun or difficult. We’ll be praying for you lots, and for Catherine and Martha too. Dave & Eileen x
